Re: production numbers on slp cars

if the SS is an SLP model there will be 2 stickers on it. The one on the drivers door says it is modified and meets safety requirements. On the passenger door is a sticker listing the options installed. Not all SLP cars have the center exit exhaust. Some of the options are as follows
performance lid - this looks like the stock lid but without the baffles and ridges on the inside
performance exhaust - depends on the year but may be the TOTL, or the DD exit, with stainless steel muffler and 3 inch cat back
chrome wheels - chrome SS style ten spoke wheels
floor mats - embroidered floor and rear deck mats

theres more but those are the most common I think. That car may not be an actuall SLP, you can easily get the center exhaust kit, but I think the SLP cars came with different tips.

I'm not sure on the production numbers. You can call SLP and give them your VIn and the can tell you what number yours is.

Re: production numbers on slp cars

I looked at the window sticker and it says something about slp performance upgrades then it gives the dollar amount for the package..so it is an slp car i was more or less wondering how many GM sent to slp for the year of 2002. And it didn't break down what all the upgrades were so thats why i was asking..also it doesn't have the SS 10 spokes it has 17 inch chorme or high polished ZR1 rims with 275s all around....anymore info with be greatly appretiated thanks

You can call SLP with the Vin number and they can tell you how many where actually made that year and give you the production number of that unit. But as far as a total break down, that can be found online at a few web sites. Each site usually has different numbers for the total count on the break down. Best bet is just call SLP.

Does your ride have its "Certificate of Birth", if not you can also purchase on through SLP!

Re: production numbers on slp cars

2002 was the highest production year for the late model Camaro SS, with number bieng around 11,600 that year. As opposed to 8,000 and below for the other previous years. You will not be able to find definative numebrs on the production total for 2002, like previous years. Once GM closed the Camaro plant in Canada, it couldn't careless about sorting out the final production numbers. Many are awaiting for SLP and GM to finalize these figures, but don't hold your breath.

There's a reference called "The Camaro White Book" that lists a lot of interesting things about the Camaro, from 1967 to 2002. It includes production numbers for the SS, and some of the aftermarket special edition cars like the ZL1. Check on Amazon or B&N.

Those are the right size of wheels and were offered on the 98 and 99 SSs but I thought they switched to the ten spoke rims in 2000 (which are also 17 inch and wear 275s). I'd check the door jam for the RPOs and look for the code WU8 to ensure it is a SS. If they didn't offer the ZR1s in 2002 then that strikes me as odd because I haven't heard of anyone switching from ten spokes to ZR1s.

Your best bet is still to actually SLP and be sure before you pay top $$$ for it. There was a supposedly SLP SS for sale locally here, with many of the same things you mentioned, but when a guy called SLP to check, it turned out to be SLP "parts" car that somebody had created. Be sure, it's your $$$.

I think the ZR-1's were another option, you could get either the stock painted ten spokes, the chrome plated 10 spokes, or the zr-1's. SLP will still give you the production number of YOUR car but isnt currently providing full numbers or certification of SS's. (according to the SSOA). I think the SLP cars also got the insert with the SS emblems in the grill. I believe non-slp cars just have the black camaro insert but Im not sure.
