Problems shutting off 96 z28

Good day guys like the post says Im having troubles shutting off the car qith the key.When I turn to off position it continues to run any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I am new to this camaro world. Thanks guys in advance

The ignition cylinder (part with the key) is connected to and operates the ignition switch further down the steering column by a thin rod. Rod could be loose, ignition switch could be loose. Shoebox has a good description of the system, with photos:

Not suggesting you need to replace the switch, just showing how it all fits together.
