Power Window Won't Raise
Power Window Won't Raise
My driver's side window is having problems. The window will go down on it's own, but then will not go up all the way (it gets stuck somewhere in the middle). If I let it sit for a little while it will raise some, or it might go all the way up. I replaced the regulator and motor assembly with a GM replacement from the dealer about 3 years ago. I also just put in a new switch and made sure the connections were good. Neither of these things fixed the problem. I am thinking that the window motor is getting hot and it's thermal protection is shutting it off. Do these motors burn out this fast? Any other ideas of what might be causing this?
Re: Power Window Won't Raise
If there is enough drag on the regulator (or the flat wound spring is broken) it might burn out that fast or that particular motor just did not last. My GM replacement motor has lasted 12+ years.

Like anything electrical, lifespan has alot of things that you may not be able to control (for instance there could have been a problem when it was made, one of the parts could have not been of the best quality when it was produced, ect.
You will probably be looking at a replacement motor again I am sure.

Re: Power Window Won't Raise
I once replaced the motor with a new GM motor. It lasted three days. Replaced it again, and got about three years out of it. The motor was out of warranty, so I got a Dorman with the lifetime warranty. Heck, it's lasted about 4 years. If it goes out, I get a new one.

So is that definitely a problem that will only be fixed by a new motor ? I was also thinking it was just because it was hot or maybe too much drag & the reg. might need to be lubricated, or at least hoping it was that anyway.
Anyone ??
