power window not working
power window not working
My problem is while putting in a mirror control, I pulled off the window switch connectors with a small screw driver and I hit something which caused sparks and now I cant get the windows to work. I tried a new 30 amp fuse and that didn't work, I tried the test light and I am not getting any power from the fuse jacks that the fuse plugs into. Do you have any suggestions on how to solve the problem to allow me to get power again to the windows, or is there a relay switch somewhere that I can check or what. Please help. Thanks,
Re: power window not working
Sounds like you made a short to ground and hurt the circuit. Don't use metal to go at electrical connectors if theres power to them...lessons learned! Use a multimeter and test the voltage to the connector, a test light doesn't give any info besides if the circuit has a certain voltage or not.
Re: power window not working
You more than likely fried a fusible link or the wiring somewhere in the line between the window motor and the switches or in the wiring between the switch and the fuse box. Get a tester and test the line and replace as necessary.

You didn't say what year car you're working on... But HERE'S a wiring diagram upstream of the fuse panel for a 95 from shoebox's site... Might not be exactly the same for yours depending on the year.

2020: since you have this thread going, I will respond here, rather than email you have been sending me.
The radio and windows circuit is fed through the Body Control Module (BCM). You may have damaged it with the short. The 1996 diagram should be the same. That's all I have to show you.
