Power loss help!!!

New here, recently got a 93 z28 stock (except k&n CAI) and ive been having some problems with it and hopefully some of you can help me. First, the car was sitting for about a yr before i started driving it about a week ago. The first thing i noticed when i bought it was that it had a strong gas smell coming from the exhaust. I put new gas in and the smell now isnt as bad. Second, i noticed that my brake lights werent working so i changed the fuse and the lights worked until i hit the brake the first time and it blew the fuse??? ( what can cause the fuse to blow everytime i change it???) Third, i ended up putting some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank and every since my car has gotten worse. Its been backfiring when driving on the highway and i let go of the accelerator, car feels like it loses power when at a stop light and feels like its going to turn off, when stopping at a stop light, car shakes back and forth. I also noticed that the exhaust tone changed and sounds muffled. Wtf?? Can all this be caused bc of one thing??? Last thing i noticed was that the car started a small oil leak tonight that wasnt there before and the car will not go past 2k rpms. HELP!!! I know i need to change the spark plugs, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plug wires since the car has been sitting for a yr. car has about 120k miles..... Any help os much appreciated.

Re: Power loss help!!!

initialy i would say bad plug or wire maybe. as for the oil where is it coming from? because the ring on the oil filter could just be cracked after siting and not up to holding the pressure anymore.

Its coming from the back/bottom. Theres no oil leak from the top and theres no smoke coming from the bottom of the car

the back/bottom is exactly where the oil filter is on a LS1. i would check there for the oil leak. look under your car almost in line with the back edge of the front tire. and your fuel filter will be there

He say's he got a stock 93 z-28 which does not have an LS1. He has an LT1. I'm guessing just a typo.

Thought about that but theres really no way of testing to see if its that ( i dont think theres a way). If it is the cat, should i just go catless and not have to worry about it ever clogging up? Im in FL so i dont have to worry about inspections.

What im really worried about is where the oil leak is coming from. Theres no smoke coming from the engine bay, engine looks clean from up top, it hasnt leaked till tonight but i did see old oil that dripped from the front of the car, all the way back to the muffler. Seems like its been there for a while but for the week ive had it, there hasnt been a leak till tonight.

Re: Power loss help!!!

Very easy to test for a plugged cat. Pull an O2 sensor out and use a pressure gauge to measure the backpressure on the cat. Any exhaust shop should be able to do that for you.

It's possible the plugged cat is increasing blowby of the piston rings, pressurizing the crankcase and causing the oil leaks.

Im starting to believe its my cat. Today i changed the oil to mobil1 10w30 fully synthetic and replaced the fuel filter and the car does feel better. Still feel the lack of power when accel. Didnt have a chance of replacing the spark plugs/wires and the o2 sensors were being a bitch and wouldnt come off. Ill see if i can remove my cat soon ( hopefully this weekend). I also noticed that my oil pressure went up. Usually it will only go up a forth on the gauge and after the oil change im at half way... Pretty sure thats a good thing

Re: Power loss help!!!

I added engine restore years ago and my oil pressure was way up for a long time. I bet the oil change is the same way. Will stay up for a bit and then go back to normal.

Ok so on top of all my other previous problems, now my car is starting to shut off. If im at a stop light, rpm drops and car shuts off. Sometimes itll turn back on without a problem and then theres other times where it wont. When it does turn on and i put it into drive, it wants to die out again until i press on the accelerator. I also noticed that while driving on the the highway yesterday, the car developed a "hiccup"?. Can it be the fuel pump? I also have an oil leak which is dripping between the engine and the trans. Theres no smoke coming from anywhere. .... HELP!! This car has been a pain! Only thing ive done to it recently was an oil change and a fuel filter change. Tomorrow i should be replacing thr spark plugs, wires and o2 sensors but i dont think this will fix my problems....
