Re: Power door lock troubles (Shoebox???)

I thought I would add my problem and the solution here:

Problem I was having:

-Door switches would not lock or unlock doors. Doors would lock with aftermarket alarm remote, but would not lock.

Troubleshooting:

-Replaced both driver and passenger side door lock switches since they were 11 years old and one was broken.
-Troubleshot using the method in this article at the keyless entry module in the passenger kick panel. Found that if I removed the module and jumpered the orange/black wire to the tan wires (there is one for the driver side and one for the passenger) and the pink/black to the gray wire, this bypassed the module and allowed both driver and passenger locks to work as well as my alarm keyless entry again.

End result:
-A bad keyless entry module will not pass the door lock signals through to operate the switches if it fails (bad design GM). If you are using an aftermarket alarm, or want to fix your door locks so that they work again, just splice the wires together using the colors I listed above. This sounds like a common problem from searching the forum and I hope it helps others out.

Has anyone tried this? Does it really work? Does the receiver box have to be hooked up after splicing the wires at the plug? My car is driving me out of my mind. I can wrinkle the pavement, but cant unlock my doors.

This does work as I mentioned, and no, you do not need the module anymore after splicing the wires. It was a while ago but I know that it will work OK.
