can you tell what number car you had off the line by the vin number? (for 98-02 f-bodies at least)... i searched but the terms "factory, line, and number" bring up about 95% of the threads on this forum...

I believed only an SS is a numbered production, the others are not.

The last digits are the number of the car. For the most part it doesn't matter what the number is unless its an SS or something, but yeah...that's it

They're not limited on the average car. I didn't say it doesn't matter at all, I just said for the most part it doesn't

The last 5 digits of the VIN is the production sequence for the model year, for Camaros. 00001 was the first one made. In years where there were more than 100,000 Camaros made, you have to look at the last 6 digits, recognizing that the first on made was 100001.

Does it really matter whether, out of 48,490 Camaros built for the US in 1998 that yours is # 12,345? Or are you just trying to determine if is was made "early" or "late" in the production year? There's a build date on the door tag, for that purpose.
