PLEASE HELP!!!!! water pump problem

i own a 95 formula

i let a friend drive my car today!!!!!!!!!! stupid me

anyway i called him after he had been gone a while and asked him how it was running to which he replied a little hot only about 260 degrees!!!!!!!!!!

he gets it back to me and the water is boiling in the radiator and the needle is well over 260 and now it is leaking water through the whole on the bottom on the water pump. what does this mean did he bust a gasket in side the water pump? do i need to replace the water pump or is this a simple fix?

thanks
robbie

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!! water pump problem

Your water pump is shot. That hole where the coolant is coming from is the weep hole, and its there to tell you to replace the water pump! I just had to replace mine, and it's a time consuming task. If your gonna replace it yourself, go buy a chilton manual, comes in very handing. And be EXTREMELY carful not to get a lot of coolant on the optispark (it's right underneath the water pump). You will get better repsonses if you post this in the LT1/LT4 section. Hopes this helps you! Good luck!

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!! water pump problem

when cold check the radiator for oil, you'll see it floating on top where you take the cap off.

if there is nothing on the surface on the coolent, and the thing idles just fine and no odd smoke from the tail pipes, you just need a new waterpump.

pain in the *** but not a difficult job at all.

Does anyone have a picture of where the weep hole is?

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!! water pump problem

another thing is if ur doing the replacement urself...make sure that when you put it back on u have the little "sleeve" that connects the water pump to the engine block on in the right direction, because it will fit both ways but only one way is correct...i know its a stupid mistake but its one that i made the first time bc i wasnt paying attention and i was rushing to get it finished and if its on the wrong way ur car will continue to over heat very quickly and ur water pump wont spin at all. just a heads up

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!! water pump problem

I used "THE RIGHT STUFF" gasket sealer when replacing my water pump. Works great, no leaks. Second water pump I've changed on an LT1. Take off the radiator fans....makes things so much easier. But yeah...water leaking from the weep hole means that it is time for a new pump. Ball bearings are most likely shot as well. Good luck.
