We have a problem on our 94Z that we need to address And I hope this is the place to post up.

For some reason, the third brake light will not go off. I mean at all times. When the car is turned off, and just sitting there, or driving down the road. The third brake light is on.

Does anyone know why this is? We just unplugged the harness under the panel for right now, but that leaves the ABS INOP light on, and no cruise control. I checked all the fuses, and I can't find out what this is.

Something to note though, we noticed the car had a SES light, and the voltage meter on the dash pegged, then it went back down. I pulled the PCM fuse, and let the car set, and the light never came back on. And the voltage returned to normal. BUT, the third brake light stayed on.

Can someone help me out here??? This is really weird, and I have no idea why this would happen.

That happened to mine while we were replacing the ignition switch once, had something to do with a switch in the steering column. It's been a little while since I did that and I don't remember exactly how we resolved it though, hope that helps steer you in the right direction.

 

Well, we didn't mess w/ the ignition switch, but at least it has happened to someone else before.

It sounds like a short in a wire somewhere, but I can't see how that could be.

 

Sounds like the switch on the brake pedal is stuck closed, but I figure that would activate the other brake lights as well.
Play with that switch to see if you can get it to turn off, it is either white or black and is slipped into the pedal assembly.
