Parts not available????? WTF!!!! Please Help!!!!!
Parts not available????? WTF!!!! Please Help!!!!!
I have a problem on my hands. I had a situation in which my 96 Camaro Z28 would not turn over. Per the factory GM manuals, I had to do some troubleshooting at the "Anti-theft Relay". This relay has a retaining clip on the back of it. This clip DOES NOT come with the relay. After my local Chevy dealer called GM directly and talked on the phone with them, they said it was no longer available. No longer available?????!!!!!!! This relay is used in multiple places throughout the car. How on earth are you supposed to mount this thing if you tear the clip apart getting it out of it's mounting location?
Anyway, I was hoping that you guys might have some luck finding this clip. I have included a picture of where it was mounted....(in the upper two holes behind the black panel....right hand side behind glovebox). I have also included a picture of the relay and the retaining clip seperated from the relay. I hope you guys can find it.....the retaining clip that is....

Re: Parts not available????? WTF!!!! Please Help!!!!!
True I didn't mess it up that bad, but in order not to pick up another rattle, I wanted to get a new one. I would even be up for modding the relay and tie wrapping it to the panel, however there is a problem. If you look at the picture of where the relay mounts...there is NO way to get behind that panel short of taking the entire dash out of the car. You can't come from the right, top, or even the bottom. You can only access it from going through the glovebox, bend your hand around, and grab it blind. I don't know what got in the designers of the car. I guess they wanted to make the relay tough to get to for car thiefs. This is the place where the BCM module (Pass key and alarm system...that is if you can turn the key switch) can be bypassed with jumpers to start the car. It just strikes me as stupid not to have replacement parts for the car. I guess GM wants to forget about supporting their past models
I still have hopes of finding this thing....but I don't think it is going to be easy.

Better get used to the idea that GM will no longer be supplying every part for f bodies. That's part of owning a vehicle that is out of production.

Yours really does not look totally useless. Try a salvage yard or just ty-wrap it in place.
