Ordering new rotors, zinc plating worth the extra money?

Buying some new rotors soon and the company I'm purchasing them from offers zince plating (in gold, silver, and black). They claim that the plating not only changes the color of the rotor but also helps protect against rusting (the reason I want the coating). I'm just wondering is the zinc coating worth the extra money?

It will keep them nice looking longer. Whether it is worth it depends on the cost.

$10-15 per rotor, price varies by color.

Just what do you think that plating will protect. Look at your rotors now and if they are like mine the brake pads clean up everything after a few stops. That plating is not going to remain on the pad contact area for long.

But the plating remains on the part of the rotor that is not swept by the pad. So it wont get all rusty and look bad.

I don't know about your car but my pads don't cover 100% of the rotor surface.

The Powerslots I have on the car I believe are zinc coated, and only the 'swept area' rusts..[the coating wears right off of that] the rest looks OK, and stays 'silver'...

Well worth it to keep Surface Rust from building up on all parts not touched by the Pads themselves....

I have Irotors with the Zinc Plating and 2 years later they still look Brand New....

Obviously, the plating is not meant to protect the brake swept area. It's to keep the rest of the rotor looking nice.

I think it's worth the extra $40 I paid... If they're drilled or slotted it will keep those areas rust free also... I have Z06's so you can see the rotors pretty well and I don't want to look at my wheels and see crappy, rusty looking rotors behind them.

I have Baer rear rotors, drilled, slotted and zinc-washed, and they have no rust at all on them after more than 7 years. By comparison, my stock front rotors (on which I painted the hats and the edges) look like solid ***** of rust. The zinc-wash is definitely worthwhile.

Probably going to go with black zinc plating, That way everything in the wheel area (rim included) will be black.
