Odd tire balding

I bought my 2000 camaro about a year ago with almost new tires. Still had the little rubber thingies. The back tires have worn as expected but the fron tires have started balding on the outside only. If it were alignment I would have figured both outside and inside would wear down. The inside of my tires look almost new, as good as the back tires do all the way around. I havent asked a shop what the prob might be, I figured someone here might know. The front tires are bad enough I will need new ones soon, the back tires still have plenty of time on em.

Do you rotate them on a regular basis and have you checked the psi?

Re: Odd tire balding

It's a common problem on F-bodies. Alignment shops will align the car by the book (-0.5 camber) and there's STILL not enough negative camber. Go to a shop and tell them you want as much negative camber as you can get, which, with a stock suspension you can't get much farther than that without lowering the car. The best I could get out of mine after almost a 2" drop without screwing up the toe was -1.3*, and my tires wear evenly now.

Yeah, the camber might be a problem, too, but I would venture out to say that there is too much positive toe. So, basically, you are driving down the road something like this: /o\

Your best bet is to go to have your alignment checked.

Re: Odd tire balding

I was thinking it would be something like what you said GRNZ, but I didnt think that could be fixed with alignment, well then, off to the store for two new tires and an alignment, YAY.
