Odd radio problem

All day long my radio has been fine but tonight I was getting no sound from any of the speakers. Once I hit the gas the speakers popped on for 4 minutes or so then cut off. I would have to hit the gas to make them come on. Any ideas?

Re: Odd radio problem

your alternator is probably going bad cause if you have to hit the gas to get power, your alternator must not be charging your battery enough to supply enough output to all your electronics

Possible... But I'm thinking that probably wouldn't occur without him noticing the drop in voltage if he keeps an eye on his instruments. For the stereo to quit being able to function, I'm guessing it would probably have to be around 8 or 9 volts... And by that time, it would be pretty evident that he was losing juice.

It could be something as simple as a frayed wire harness contacting metal, and not contacting the metal during acceleration. That's rough. Good luck tracking it down, whatever it is.

Re: Odd radio problem

get a "test speaker", and when the sound quits from the original speaker, hook up the test speaker. If it too is dead, THEN we need to look elsewhere.

Re: Odd radio problem

I'm not losing power. The volts are fine. Feels more like something is loose and when I hit the gas it shakes whatevers loose and makes the speakers come on again. The speakers are aftermarket and the deck never shows any signs of something being wrong. I need to find where the speakers plug into the deck. Odd all 4 speakers stop working at one time.
