odd headlight motor issue

I have a 97 Trans Am, when I set or disarm the alarm the cars the lights flip and back down. Then the left lights motor keeps running for about 7 more seconds like its still trying to close even though its closed already. It does the same thing If I open and close them with the light switch. If I unplug the headlight motor and set the alarm and disarm it than plug the motor back it, I do not have the issue for a while. Does any one know what that problem is?

Sounds like the gear problem to me. Do a search for "headlight fix" and see what you find.

it's definately a headlight gear problem, I had the same thing with my bird. Go on ebay and look for firebird headlight gear there's a guy that sells them in either aluminum or brass, I got aluminum, it's a pretty easy thing to fix, I would suggest doing both at same time. After you replace the stock plastic gears with the metal ones, you wont have to worry about it happening again.

Just take the motor apart and spin the nylon gear 180 degrees, and that should fix it.The motor only turns half the gear .Hope this helps.

The motor doesn't have to be taken apart to do the 180 degree gear turn. Below is a link to everything you ever want to know about the Firebird headlight problems. Scroll to the bottom for the 180 degree temporary fix.

Here's Brent's fixit: www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/index.htm
