OBD1 SES Light Problem

I have a 1994 pontiac trans am and my SES light keeps coming on for a while but then turns off. I have tried to test it and when I put the tested in the harness the electric fans turn on and the SES light flashes WAY too fast to read it. My electric fans keep on turning on driving around even when it isn't hot. What could be the problem?

You cant flash the codes on a 94, You have to get it scanned. Go to local shops and ask around.

When the SES light comes on the car kinda feels like it stumbles and I also noticed that today it made some loud pinging a couple of times. What different things could cause this other than the 02 sensor? I mean things that will trip the computer code too.

Many things can trigger SES light, code scan is best thing to do. A guess if car is running properly would be EGR valve.... guess only.

The PCM stores the trouble codes for quite a while. Even if the light isn't on, the scanner will still get the code.

Wish it would store a code for you. I will list my symptoms of my EGR failure for you... Car ran great all the time, light would come on only while highway-steady speed driving, then go off, but once light came on cooling fans stayed on until car was shut off.

Well my car is definitely bogging down with more throttle and pinging a lot. I don't have a lot of money to spend on it right now. I hope that I don't have to replace everything that I think is wrong with it just to nail it.

Does it run fine sometimes, then when you're applying steady pressure to the gas and trying to maintain speed, does it start to slowly bog down untill it corrects itself or you give it more gas? If so, it's probably O2 sensors.

Just make sure you replace them with AC Delco O2 sensors. People seem to have problems with Bosches and other brands. Also best to do both at the same time, because the if you only have one out right now, the other one will probably follow soon. You can get the O2's from www.gmpartsdirect.com for a decent price. I believe the part # is 25312184.

P.S. The passenger side is a pain to replace, but the drivers side can be done in no time.

I'd also like to add that an Electron Blue C3 Corvette is the stuff wet dreams are made of.

Thanks so much. I went ahead and bought some Bosch ones from my work(Autozone) a couple of days ago but haven't had the chance to install them. I ended up selling the vette a couple of months ago to another guy on this board that lived close by me. I put A LOT of hard work, money and TIME into that car. It is a very quick beauty.
