Noise from front wheel on drivers side

My kid was driving my car and it now has a squeeling/rubbing/grinding sound coming from the front drivers side wheel. It gets a little louder at the same point of each wheel rotation. If you put the brakes on it goes away as well as if you give it gas and apply the brakes a little it is quiet as long as you do this. I was thinking worn out brakes but maybe someone has a different idea. He said he hit a pretty big pot hole so maybe that started it.

Swap that tire to the back and see if the sound follows it. The way your describing though, sounds like warped brake rotor/worn pads. It is possible something else got bent, but hitting the brakes or riding them shouldnt make the noise go away if its something thats bent. Try moving that tire/wheel first, then while your in there you can check your pads.

Worst case, the wheel bearing may be shot, that probably would go away or at least get quieter when riding the brakes as theres pressure from two places.

Thats the warning scraper on the brake pad. Its a metal tab on the pad positioned so that it drags on the rotor, making noise, just before the pad is completely gone. The sound will go away when brakes are applied.

Time for new pads.

I will have to also say that the warning clip is the first thing to check out, if not then check the rotor.

How does the car ride after hitting the pot hole does it vibrate. The wifes van hit one in Cheney and for some freaking reason the whole front end started to vibrate to find out the rotor got damage.

My son goes to college at Eastern Washington in Cheney so maybe it was the same damn one. But if anyone know the roads in Spokane/Cheney than its a 1/1000 chance. The steering pulls to the side a lot worse but no vibration. Probably need an alignment also.

You might be right of all places to hit maybe the same pot hole. She didnt have any pulling problems just virbrations. Also the wheel balance fell off, so the tire needed to be rebalance again.
