No power to car

Hi,
My name is Brad and this is my first post to the boards. I've listened to the show for a few years, but just recently bought a camaro and thought I would get into the forums. Unfortunately my first post has to deal with a major problem with my car.

Anyway, I bought a 1999 Camaro 3.8 5 speed under the pretenses that the engine was locked up. When I got the car home, I threw a brand new battery in her and she started! She did have a loud knock so I shut her down and let her sit for a few days before I could put the car in the garage to take a look. When I went out to the car 3 days later the battery was completely dead. I threw the charger on it and let it sit for a night. The next morning I came out and the charger indicated a full charge. I opened the door and got into the car to check, but there was no power whatsoever going to the car. The lights didn't even turn on when I opened the door. Turning the key also had no effect. At first I thought it was the PASSKEY system, but the security light was not on either. I really don't know where to even start looking for a problem. The battery cables look clean and like I said it started fine several days ago. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- Brad

Re: No power to car

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com!!!

The "Car Audio and Electronics" forum is generally used for audio systems and other aftermarket electronic gadgets. Let's move this to "General 67-02 F-Body Tech" and see if we get more responses.

Re: No power to car

Much appreciated! I wasn't entirely sure where to post.

If there is any more information that I can/should provide feel free to ask.

Re: No power to car

Check the connections from the battery to their components first. Make sure ground is secure on both ends.

Re: No power to car

It sounds like the battery is still dead. Any chance your charger is wrong when it indicates a full charge? I'd test the battery another way.

Also, check that the battery cables are making good connections on the side posts.

Re: No power to car

Sorry to bump a post that's been dead for a few months. Before I took the engine out for the rebuild I once again had power. Didn't touch anything in between then and the original post so I'm going to assume I have a bad ground or other connection some where. The engine is out and in pieces right now so once everything is back in I'll post an update as to what the electrical situation is.
