No heat

I have a 1993 Z28, and I was wondering if heater cores are common in these vehicles. If not, does anyone know any quick fixes that I can try to solve my heating problem?

Why yes, heater cores are very common. In fact, every 4th gen has one.

The #1 cause of no heat is a clogged heater core. There are possibly hundreds of posts about this common problem.

Do I detect a note of sarcasm?

I think as you spend more time here, you will find Shoebox is one of the most helpful and knowledgable people here. Like many of us, he gets a bit frustrated when people don't use the "search" function. Entering the words "heater core" and limiting the search to the last 30 days turned up these:

LT1 No Heat from Panel

Yes, I too have been plagued with no heat coming from the floor on my 1995 Z28 for seven years - yes seven years, but hey! I live in Arizona and it doesn't get cold right? Wrong!!!! My Minnesota snowbirds complain of the weather every year! Anyway back to the topic... After reading all of the threads yall submitted regarding low heat, no heat, where's the heat I was convinced that (A) I had a clogged heater core or (B) I had an obstruction in my heater hoses or (C) I had an air bubble in my coolant lines or (D) my thermostat was the wrong temp or clogged or (E) the FoMoCo guys put type F in my rad to sabotage me (LOL). Well, here is my solution and I bet it holds true for most of you caballeros out there as well: C. Air bubble. To start I disconnected the in/out hoses to the core from the water pump (oh but first drain the radiator lest ye have a big ol mess on yer driveway). Being the inquisitive type and not afraid to put my lips on a hose ladened with poisonous glycol I chose to blow into the heater hose to see just how much flow there really was - wide open baby. So, much to my dismay and enjoyment ((core was flowing well so I didn't get (I said get to, not have to, we all know how much enjoyment we get when we GET to work on cars rather than HAVE to work on cars)) to change my heater core. I proceeded to connect the hoses and refill with coolant. (Take note fellow LT1 comrades that there are two air bubble purge vents in the coolant system that must be burped/bled/purged properly. One on top of the T-Stat housing and one inline on the outlet side of the heater core. Both are visible and above the T-stat housing.) Well to cut to the chase, the return line vent bleed was corroded with scale and I could not bleed the air buuble from the heater core. I had to remove the brass bleed valve from the hose and then scrape the scale from the return tube until I re-establshed a vent connection. I then reassembled, filled with coolant, burbed and had massive heat! First time in seven years all because of a bubble in the system.

Hope this helps and sorry for the long winded tale but hey! You got through it! Get your motor running....

Super

Disconnect the heater lines (front the engine) and run a garden hose through backwards ( the water, not the whole hose)to flush it.
