I have had an 01 Z28 for about two years now and I am looking to add a 98 Trans-Am. The issue I am having is that the car I want has a salvage title (theft recovery). It runs strong and shifts good. I am not concerned with the cosmetic issues, but it has 118,000 miles. I can see an oily substance under the car. I am just wondering if you guys can give me things to look for, and I am going to take to a mechanic today, hopefully. I am only looking for a good car to gut and take to the strip.

 

A salvage title would make me nervous, but by you taking it to a mechanic for inspection is a good move. As for the oil leak, it could be a result of a number of things.

Maybe it's just me, but that seems way too high for a wrecked car with a slavage title, for 2k more you can get a good car with a regular title.

 

I can't seem to find any. This is the first Ls1 I have seen that runs and drives good for under 5k.

For 4K + I recnetly picked up a minor wreked 97 firebird with 60K miles on it with a very minimal oil leake on the back of the block.. think it is a gasket? but anyways I have drove that car for a while now and have 150K miles on it with no major problem...so I would say good car but 4800 still to high , especaiily for salvage
