The 'new' SLP Cat-Back?
The 'new' SLP Cat-Back?
Hey everyone, I've been doing some reading up on the cat-back exhaust systems available for Fourth Gen F-Bodies on the message boards (I had a Flowmaster 80 series with 3" piping and no cat on my 88 Camaro 305) and have noticed that alot of people talk about the SLP Loudmouth exhaust. I'm definitely into the exhaust that makes people look twice, but after having the Flows on my Third Gen and experiencing the "highway drone" I've heard so many mention on the boards, I'm not quite sure if the Loudmouth is really that practical for me. But to my question- Have any of you heard the 'new'(?) SLP cat-back, NOT the loudmouth? I was browsing through http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com and came across it. The description reads as follows-
"SLP's stainless steel catalyst back exhaust systems for 1993-1995 Camaro and Firebird can provide you with as much as 17 additional horsepower, depending on the application. This "cat back" system has just been updated with a new, more powerful sounding muffler! Not as aggressive as the "Loud Mouth" system, this revised exhaust offers a powerful, muscular sound without being "obnoxious". It is crafted entirely of stainless steel and is a direct bolt on replacement for the stock system. Included are SLPs famous "dual dual" tips with 2.5" outlets. You get all the necessary parts for easy bolt on installation and complete instructions"
Anyways, just wondering if anyone has heard this cat-back, as the Flows seem to have that 'tinny' sound to them. Was also considering Magnaflow, and for those days I want to wake up the neighbourhood, have a cutout pipe for easy removal.
Thanks guys, and happy modding!

If anyone wanted to check out the page I got that from, as well as a picture of the system and pricing, here is the address...

It looks identical to the dual/dual system that was offered on SS models 98 and up. My SS came with it and it has a very good sound but is very quiet. Most say it is barely louder than the stock muffler......barely.

From what I understand, the SLP dual/Dual kits that are sold as "aftermarket" kits have a more aggressive sound. I think that my Dual/Dual has the famed "Cone of Silence" in it. I am going to have the drivers side tailpipe removed this springto find out for sure. You might want to check out their new Loud Mouth kits that have the replaceable muffler, it is cheaper and my better suit your needs.

n20blkz... that kit looks cool... too bad I have a 93 LT1. For those of you that have the Loudmouth exhaust, is it really as obnoxious and annoying on the highway as i hear?
Re: The 'new' SLP Cat-Back?
it's very loud, especially if you have gears and an auto--can drive you nuts on the highway. If you don't drive your car every day, and only on the weekends or very nice days, it's not bad at all. Feel sorry for the people who DO drive their fbodies every day.
Re: The 'new' SLP Cat-Back?
The exhaust you showed is the Dual/Dual. My buddy had one and it was very quiet. Probably one of the quietest aftermarket exhausts available. If you are gonna get one i thought Tbyre or Thunder had it for $500ish.
n2oblkz-I believe the cone of silence only came on SLP 2OTL exhaust, thats the whole reason they came out with the dual/dual was to have a quieter exhaust.

As for the Dual/Dual. I think that it sounds great. If you want a car that sounds good and is fairly quiet at idle but is good and healty at WOT with long tubes and ORYP, then the Dual/Dual is for you. Check out ebay and some of the F-body boards. You can pick up fatory Dual/Dual cat backs for really cheap and in good condition. I think I paid like $250.00 or $275.00 for mine and it was like new with only about 5,000 miles on it from a guy locally.
I think that the new Loud Mouth II is very interesting. I was never a fan of the loudmouth on a car that had headers and no cats...actually I think it sounds like A$$. A lot of people add the Borla XR1's to the loud mouth to give it a good sound and no rasp and I think that is what SLP has done. Only it would be cheaper than buying a loudmouth cat-back and adding an XR1. If I wasn't in the middle of buying parts to have an engine built, I would buy a Loud Mouth II just for the fun of it, just to see how it sounds with my long tubes and ORYP.
Good luck. http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...Cone+of+silence
