new purchase

Hello all. Well, I finally convinced the wife to trade her Stealth twin turbo(money pit!). We now have a 1997 Formula Firebird LT1 A4 w/80,000mi. on it. It won't beat my Challenger but it's fast enough(mods soon to come). The motor is as healthy as a horse, uses no oil and runs great. This is my first post and I had a couple of questions:

1. The volume **** on the stereo is strange. Sometimes when I turn it up, the volume decreases and vise-versa. Anybody deal with this before? BTW: it's not a monsoon but is stock.

2. What do the stock exhaust tips look like on a '97 Formula? The car is fairly loud and has 2 large loud tips out the back(I thought formulas had four-tip exhaust)

We couldn't be happier with this car, it rides much better than her Stealth TT , has far less problems, is easier to work on and is just as fast.

I was almost positive the stock exhaust on a 1997 Formula was a quad exhaust system (4 tips...2 on the left rear and 2 on the right rear). I will post a link of a '97 Formula on Ebay so you can check it out it has a rear-end shot, I'm not sure if the link will work though, but it does have the 4 tips like previously stated.

eBay item 2482492394 (Ends Jun-24-04 20:24:28 PDT) - Pontiac : Firebird

By the way, right on with the Challenger

Thanks Daniel- I'll try to post some pics of the old Dodge

I checked out that Ebay #. It's a '95, so I wonder if something changed by '97. That car looks just like my wife's except her's has got T-tops and the interior is a lighter shade of tan.

By the way, my bad. I posted a link to a 1995 Formula which had the quad tips and I think you are right, I think from '95 -'97 the exhaust layout changed, because I went onto Ebay and looked at some '97 Formulas and they all had dual tips instead of the 4 tip exhaust.

Does your wife's Formula have dual oval shaped tips? If it does I think that is the stock exhaust for that specific car.

They're actually round and have a 45degree angle slice on'em. They do look stock....maybe they are.

I don't know...now that I think of it my friend had a '96 or a '97 Formula and he had the dual oval shaped tips. I THINK those are the stock ones you mentioned they are round and have a 45 degree slice on them, I don't think those are stock, but I could be wrong.

Have you checked under the car to see if its a stock muffler or not? Maybe the previous owner just added aftermarker chrome tips?

I was under it briefly and couldn't see any markings on the muffler. I'm thinking the oval ones are stock, too.

The reason I don't think it's stock is because it seems awfully loud . Especially when you get on it .
