New guy here !
New guy here !
Sup all ! Don't know if this is the right forum. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'll be picking up my new project car here soon(after my patio deck is complete), its a 67 rs/ss with no matching #'s. Got it with no engine or tranny in need of some work(obviously) for $2200. I am thinking of going with a LS1 w/ 6 speed but it might be too expensive for me, I don't know we'll see . I also found an 89 iroc rear end w/posi and disc brakes for $ 285 , will this work well with this setup ? I don't know what ratio it is !
Anywayz , I'm looking forward to posting here and getting some advice !

Re: New guy here !
welcome first of all...
and from what i'm told...i have a habit of picking on the newbies...just ask "will_die_trying"....
sorry...couldn't resist
as for teh car...nice find. allows you to build it the way you want with out worrying about ruining a collector.
i say go for the LS1...with a simple cam swap you can have 400rwhp and still get almost 25mpg highway.
as for that rear end. if you plan to make decent power down the line...i would pass. even the aussie rear ends (not sure when those were available in the 3rd gens) are not all that strong. and i think the rear is too wide anyway. i would just pony up the $$ from the getgo and install a nice 12bolt. then you will never have to worry about breaking it.

Re: New guy here !
What do you think of the 402(gen III) ? I was reading March issue Chevy High Performance(has a Chevelle on the cover) and they pulled 564hp @6500 with a 850 mighty demon . I would like to go with fuel injection and a manual tranny. I read on another forum(Camaroz28.com) that the 12 bolt is for automatic vehicles so would a 9in Ford be good ?
Re: New guy here !
why would a 12bolt only be for the autos?? they work just fine for the manuals as well. i suppose the 9bolt is a bit stronger, but still either would work fine.the 402 LS2 block engines are great, but any stroker LS1 based block will produce similar numbers.
considering stock bottom end LS1s with good heads and a decent cam will easily produce 500 crank hp. even stock heads will yield 450 hp at the crank. that's about where i'm at now. and i'm turning 25/18 highway/city for gas milage with the 6spd and 3.42 gears.
