Need help wiring custom gauges...
I bought new individual gauges to replace the OE gauge cluster in my 1993 Camaro Z28, and I've got everything figured out except the electrical. Each gauge has it's own "power" and "ground" wire. Do I need to isolate them from eachother & wire them up individually, or can I get away with bunching them together and running it to the main OE "power" and "ground" wires? I'm not an expert in wiring, so I just wanted to figure out my "game plan" before I try tackling this wiring feat...
Re: Need help wiring custom gauges...
Well, I talked with a manager at Advance Auto, and he told me that it would work, so that only leaves me with one dilemna. The wiring harness for the gauge cluster has TWO ground wires and THREE power wires. The way my gauges will be wired, I split the total number of ground wires in half and splice each half into one or the other ground wire.
The part I'm having trouble figuring out? Well, like I said, there's THREE power wires. According to the wiring diagram, there's two power feed wires from "gauges" (linked to Fuse #9) and one power feed wire from "courtesy" (linked to fuse #8). The fuse for "courtesy" is a 15-amp fuse, while the one for "gauges" is only a 10-amp fuse. For maximum power, should I splice all three wires together and distribute them to the appropriate gauges and indicator lights, or should I divide the power wires amongst the gauges separately? If separately, I would probably run the wires to all the gauges to the two wires marked "gauges" (fuse #9), and the indicator lights to the wire marked "courtesy" (fuse #9). Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
