Need help convincing my dad.

I don't really know if this is the right thread for it so I'm just going to post here. If it needs moved someone please move it.

Anyways, my dad is really itching to start building on something. I told him that we should do my car but I think he wants something for himself, which is understandable.

We have a 4 bolt main 350 block sitting in our shed and he was wanting to find an older vette (76-79) and build that up. He is an old time gear head and knows tons about carbed motors. I on the other had would like for him to find a nice used high mileage C4 LT1 vette. I saw one the other day, it had 130,000 miles on it, very clean inside and out and the guy only wanted 9,000 for it and it was a 93. He just doesn't want a newer one because he does not want to deal with the computer and stuff. I keep on telling him that if he does build up a older vette, yeah its going to be fun around town but he would never be able to drive it somewhere. Now, if he would get a newer vette and put a LE1 or LE2 package on it. We could both jump in our cars and go on the next Powertour.

How can I get him convinced that he needs a C4???

I know you want to convince him, but why couldnt he drive a carbed motor on the powertour? Most of the cars that go on it are carbed. Some days i wish my car had a carb, some days i wish my days camaro had fuel injection. Just preferance man.

$9K for a C4 with 130,000 miles is kind of high. Is it a M6 or a Vert too. Does it have FX3 and Sport Seats? The 95 and 96 C4s have the J55 brakes, and other upgrades. The C4s are still dropping in price; while the C3s have stabilized and the many years are going up in value. Your dad is probably making the smart move!

I would rather have a carb. Simplicity is bliss.

Re: Need help convincing my dad.

Depending on what your dad wants to build. I am speaking in his court.
If it's a 600CID BB then no- no power tour. If its a 383 with solid roller making 650FWHP then yes it is doable. With a 700R4/4R? and a 4.11 gear ya can drive it anywhere. We did it in the '60's so what has changed? All (except the 245FWHP 283) the 'vetts back then had a solid flat tappet and 4.11 gears.
He could build a smokin SBC to make a bunch of HP and still drive it anywhere.

OK OK I want him to get a newer one because I think it would be better for him. I know more about the LT1 while he knows a lot more about SBC. Maybe he is right for doing it that way then. I guess I'll let him decide. LOL, thanks guys.

He wants to build a 383 and stick one of those Trick Flow packages on it that is supposed to make 490 HP I think. Would he be better off piecing a kit together or getting a kit like that.

He is not looking for a extremely fast car. Just something he can drive, have fun with, but still have good power.

IMO those kits don't cut it. Buy the most head that will cover the CID and then match a cam to the heads. Carb or EFI doesn't matter they both make big HP.The carb will be cheaper for the same amount of power.
