Need help bad...

Does anyone know of a way to alter something on a 1985 Z-28 so I could take it and get my speed tested and have it off??
I really need to get Defective Equiptment on my ticket or else im screwed. A friend was telling me about that my car might have a speed sensor on the tranny and it that was 'damaged' i could get it replaced.
I already know my speed might be off by about 5 or so but thats not enough.
Also, dont flame me. A lot of you should know how much it can suck getting your license suspended and insurance is already high enough.
Im asking for someone to please help me, if you dont want to post a soulution on the board e-mail me. Thanks!

He wants to break something that will throw his speedometer off so he can get it fixed and claim he didn't know he was speeding. You can break your wheel speed sensors, but even with a repair reciept they'll just lower the ticket but still say you should have known how fast you were going. Therfore it goes on your insurence. Don't speed next time? I got my license taken away and it does suck but learn from it.

I would just remove the cluster, then the needle, and move it over to the left. A mechanic would most likely think that the sensor was off, and certify it defective.

Or, you could.. take responsibility for your actions, and suck it up.

Exactly how "wrong" do you need the speedo to be??

You'd probably be better off claiming the throttle stuck or something!? In all honesty, I really did have the throttle stick WOT on my '81 Z28!!.....it was kinda scary, especially considering I was coming up on an intersection with a car in front of me!!!!

"Just shut the car off "

Remember not to turn the key all the way so that it doesn't lock the column, I came close to putting my old 86 camaro into a wall when the gas stuck,

Back to the topic, I had the same problem and tried the same thing. my speedo was actualy off by 10 mph and I was pulled over for 50 in a 40 two days after registering my 81 TA. They lowered the price of the ticket but I still lost my license for 6 months for two speeding tickets when under 18.

I just kicked it a few times and it let go. The throttle linkage on the carb was getting stuck under the air cleaner base.....can't remember how I resolved the problem in the end.....I think it just meant turning the base around 180 degrees?

Re: Need help bad...

sounds like ur friend is refering to the speedo drive gear in the tranny case. Yes, there are differerent gear ratio drive gears available & they're cheap. They can allow you to compensate for different wheel & tire sizes. How much adjustment you can get from different drive gears is the question & how to know the "correct" gear to buy. When I bought a canadian firebird a few years ago, it had the standard MPH speedo that had been converted to read in KPH not MPH. I bought the correct drive gear for a US car & presto, speedo was accurate in MPH again.
How fast were you going? The real question is, is there a chance you can introduce reasonable doubt that you did in fact or should have known you were speeding. I.E., if you were doing 50mph in a 30mph zone, I dont think anyone's going to buy that you can't tell the bogus 30mph displayed on your "adjusted" speedometer doesnt "feel" like 30mph & that you hadnt noticed everyone around you going 20mph slower than you were.
