Need Help

Like I said in my other post I am new to the LT1 world. I am looking to make my 1997 Z28 have 400RWHP before the juice. I am need of suggestions for head intake cam and fuel system what ever it takes to reach this goal. I am looking for specific details in the parts [like part numbers if possible]. I have 10k to spend on this project. So any ones view and help is appreciated. I would prefer not to break in to the bottom end if possible. Even if it is cheap bolt on's

I ordered these today
100 to 150 Juice kit
Stall convertor
Trans Specialty Transmission
Drag Radials

Re: Need Help

You should be a little more specific as to what exactly you want and what has already been added to the car.

In my opinion, I would start with your basic bolt-ons, then see what you could do next for more power.

One other thing- make sure all of your regular maintenance is in check before you start adding aftermarket parts. Examples: plugs, wires, options, rear end, sealant issues, etc. Those can pull a lot of horsepower away if they are in need of maintenance.

Re: Need Help

Here's a couple of head specialists that can port your stock LT1 heads, and supply a matching cam that - along with other modifications - can help you reach 400rwHP. You will need a cold air intake, headers (long tube recommended), 3" catback or true duals, larger injectors, and a PCM tune as well.

Don't forget about the suspension. The 400rwHP won't be very useable without suspension upgrades. Then you'll have to worry about the fragile 10-bolt rear axle assembly.

The degree of porting on the heads, and the specs for the cam will be determined by the HP level you are shooting for. Did you look over the links?

And as already noted, you don't need "new heads" - you need to have your stock LT1 heads and intake ported by someone who knows what they are doing.

Re: Need Help

You need to narrow your goals down a bit. 400rwHP is a piece of cake. 500rwHP normally aspirated is going to take it to a whole new level.

Re: Need Help

Going for just 400 hp would be pretty easy with that budget. The problem is the higher you go the more upgrades you need to support the extra hp. Doing the work yourself is the biggest way to save money. A set of heads done right with cam will produce a nice upgrade. Bigger injectors, tune, gears, stall, exhaust will all bring you closer to the goal. Everytime you make a sizable increase in hp you need to be aware the extra stress you are putting on the stock parts you have not upgraded. A forged bottom end would be a great way to insure you get to drive it with the power you made for long. Basically you need to make a list of exactly what you want and budget for that and have a combo that works well together. You always end up with more unexpected costs as you go, so be aware of that.
