Angry My power steering fluid won't quit leaking out the top the gear box!

Well, I'm in the process of building a rearend for my car, getting a clutch in, and NOW replacing my rack and pinion perhaps.

I have a steady leak (approximately a rate of 5 drops per minute or less) coming from the top most portion of the rack/pinion assembly. It appears the seal around the input shaft is leaking. I checked ebay and there's a company that sells a reman unit. I'm wondering if I should do this, or if there's a way to get the new seal for mine.

If you have p/s system knowledge please help me out. What about Lucas Stop Leak, ATF fluid? Any suggestions on something I could "treat" the seal with, or are these just "band-aids"?

Thanks a lot guys.

The stop leak doesn't work, been there done that got the t shirt. Not many of those "snake oils" do anything. If its leaking from the steering gear you can just replace the gear and you should be alright. A reman unit should have some type of warranty so if it leaks return it and try another one or just go right for a new one.

I'm not familiar with how it assembles. It appears as though it's a press fit. Is this accurate? I was under the impression it was all one unit.

Call a local dealer and ask if the steering gear is seperate from the rack assembly. If it is then just go for the gear, if not then see if a seal on the gear is replaceable.
