Is it my alternator???

I was driving back from school (100 miles) and my radio went out, then i noticed that I couldnt run the radio and heat at the same time, then they both went out and the gauges stopped working. The battery level bd bottomed out. I pulled off the freeway, and into a gas ststion, the engine shut itself off before i could do so. I got it towed to a place, who charged the battery, and started it. They ythen told me that the alternator is fine, and that its charging the battery and everything. So I got back in and continued on my journey. 20 miles later it did the same thing. I pulled off the freeway and came to a stop. When i stopped the car, the battery level went back to normal, then i started accelerating and it went down again, so i tried turning the car off and on but it wouldnt restart, so I had them tow the rest of the way. Should I replace the alternator or what. By the way this was on my 99 F 150 V6. But in my defese, the main reason i was driving home was to clean and run my Z28.
Thanks, Tony

Re: Is it my alternator???

Sounds like the alternator to me, the only way to really tell is to perform an alternator output test. Double check the connections at the alternator and battery to make sure none of them are loose. You could have also damaged the battery as well due to lack of alternator output.
