My Air Conditioner stinks BAAAADD!!

This is on my 94 Z28. It sat for almost a year then i bought it. The kid said the air didn't work when he had it either. Anyway I fixed it and the air is nice and cold but it smells really bad. I didn't notice it till I got out of the car then came back out later and got in. Opened the door and it smells like mold or something. Anybody heard of this?

Look for the dead Rat in the air duct.

It's not that unusual. Probably a little mildew in the ducts. or heater core.
You can spray into the system with a mix of water and chlorine. Very mild amount, like a cap full per 1/2 gal. Or just use it and it will clear up on it's own.

i had a nissan maxima with same issue. I sprayed lysol into the air intake with system running to kill whatever was in the ducts smelling. Took care of problem for about a year then came back. Did it again then sold car to get firebird. Good luck. I think there are some specialized products for cleaning air ducts that have mold. I believe there may be even a foaming product to realy take care of the mold.

Also make sure the side drains are open.

If it's not dripping water under the car maybe the AC condensate drain is clogged, if it is it'll eventually back up and start dripping inside the car. http://shbox.com/1/a_c_drain.jpg Something else I'd do is check inside the blower box (under passenger side dash) for wet leaves etc, happened to my car.

I work at Sears and they now offer a service that cleans out your air vents. You can call and ask them for more info on it.

So does anybody know where the air intake is? Also where is the drain located? I looked for the drain but didn't find it.

The intake is the plastic grid at the base of the windshield, under the wipers. The drains are on both sides behind the wheel wells where the body panels come together. Sorry don't have any picts. Have someone pour water down the HVAC intake and you should be able to see there it comes out.
