These mustangs cost wayy too much to make faster, and Ive always liked camaros. (worked and bought this myself, been saving money forever) Ive got a 1998 mustang gt convertible (4.6L V8), silver (charcoal metalic), black top, 17" GT optional wheels, lowered 1.5 inches , Offroad X (no cats) dual MAC's with 3" tips. Power everything, black leather interior, power top. Very good shape, no dents. I guess what Im getting at is I want to trade and Id like a ballpark figure on what most used car places would give me a deal at. I know theres no way to really tell but Id just like some input. Heres a few pictures if anyone would like to see. Everyone wastes money every now and then, I guess im starting early in life(15years old). Thanks

Ey man its all good, ur 15 wow cool. I was 16 when my dad bought me my Z28, Now i'm 17 and look at all that has changed in just one year, dont give up, I would advice you to trade in your gt for a Lt1. A Stock lt1 easily whoops on those gts.

This is what I say too, from the looks of it your car is quite nice and I am not a fan of those Mustangs.

Are you sure you want to go to an LT1 with mileage on it,, you must be able to do your own work and maintenance because if you don't the higher mileage LT1 is going to hurt your pocket book.

JMO for what it is worth.

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

Thanks for all the replys. Im not really sure what I want to do. I didnt know these camaros were alot of upkeep with high milage? Btw these 4.6 engines are costly to upgrade, trust me Ive checked that out.. I still dont see why ford didnt make the mustang more comparable to the camaro. Ive never even driven a 6speed camaro before, Id like to drive one and compare it to how i like the stang. The stang is a blast to drive, but a camaro might be more fun. Im going to sit tight for a while and check my options later. Might keep it and when I save up enough money buy me a camaro to go along with my mustang, I really like both of them, but still love speed. Ive always been the kind to hold onto something for a long long time. When I was 12 my dad sold our lifted golf cart (with 22" tires ) and I cried, I drove the **** out of that thing everywhere. . btw they might be 16" wheels im not quite sure but I thought they were 17's. Thanks for the compliments, Ive waxed it 3 times within a month, it means alot hearing complements from a few camaro guys. Thanks guys

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

Depending on the torque curves, some cars may 'feel' faster than others. I think its important to get something your gonna enjoy, for instance an lt1 has a curve providing more torque down low than the ls1 does, yet the ls1 will destroy it in the higher rpms. IMO, the lt1 is more seat-of-your-pants fun than the ls1. Im not sure how it is comparing stangs to camaros, but just my .02. Make sure your sure about what your doing too, Im not a stang fan but I think you have yourself a nice car that may be worth alot to someone someday.

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

A buddy of mine says my car will be worth alot more than a Z28 coupe of the same generation. #1 because its a convert and #2 he says since the camaro went out for 5 years, 02-07 , that camaros will be worth less because of that. I dont really care what its worth because I plan on keeping whatever I end up with it. I can give you a list of people who wish they still had their 1st car (or one of the cars they had when they were young).

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

I have never driven a 4.6L GT, but my buddy has a 96' Cobra and it is a really stout car, but the motor is just too small for me. Once you drive a LT1 and feel the torque difference you will never go back to a smaller engine.

LT1 5.7L 350CI
GT 4.6L 281CI
Camaro = 1.1L and 69 CI more

Your car looks really good man and I have to give it to the mustang guys, they do have a badass sound!

The fact that they stopped making them would make them worth more, not less. It's like a retired baseball players card or something. Either way neither of them will have any real value except for very very limited production models. It's not like Camaros or Mustangs were under produced by any means.

Here are two good sites to figure out what your car is worth, or to figure the worth of a potential car to buy. Good also to see just how bad that car dealer is gonna rape you......

http://www.kbb.com/ (Kelley blue book)

http://www.nada.com/ (National Automobile Dealers Association)

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

I have a good perspective to offer here.

I have owned half a dozen V8 Camaros. Back in 95 I even bought a brand new Z28 with the 6 speed.

Several years ago, I sold a 5.7 Iroc hardtop that was in show-condition. The reason? A friend of mine had his 1994 Mustang GT Convertible for sale. It had an automatic transmission and the 5.0 motor.

I had never owned a convertible before and the idea of owning one was very appealing. Needless to say, I sold my Iroc privately and bought the Stang.

I loved the convertible top, but it was made of low quality vinyl and started cracking. The interior didnt feel as comfortable. The shifter was in the wrong place. The seats sat me up too high. I like feeling like I am in a go-cart with my *** on the ground. The car handled allright for my needs, but it did have the power I was used to and felt disappointingly slow.

I decided to sell it and get what I really wanted all along. I searched nationally for 2 months looking for a 6 speed LT1 convertible and found the car I am driving today. I am in love. The only thing I can see selling it for would be a C5 or a LS1 6-speed Trans Am Convertible.

Go drive a 6 speed LT1 car. It will put such a big smile on your face it will be hard to ever drive a mustang again. Now, imagine that fun with the top down and the Borla exhaust wide open.

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

Well Ive decided to keep my stang. I dont think Ill run up on one like this again after Im out of highschool. But my next car will be a 93-02 Z28 or SS with the 6 speed to sit beside the stang. Im not partial to ford or chevy I like them both. Thanks for the replys.

Re: Mustang trade for camaro

It's hard to drive a Mustang for so long then start driving a camaro. The Mustang is like a glove were as the Camaro is like a boat, or a long d*l*o or something.

I 2nd that!

I've had mine a long time too, I like alot of things about the car, it's been reliable, good low miles, extremely clean, .... Acceleration could be more desireable, and i wish I had a stick... But It's payed for, it's been payed for for a very long time, and it's still a very fun car to drive, (especially yours with the drop top and 5 speed!)

It looks very clean for a 98! I think any new car seems "fast" for the first week, then it's just so so.
