Moved battery to rear, what size fuse?
Moved battery to rear, what size fuse?
I moved my battery to the rear of the vehicle and ran 2ga power wire to a distribution block up front. I had it fused with a 150amp but it keeps blowing every other time i start the car. Obviously the fuse isnt big enough. What size fuses are people using? I have also heard from several racer friends that I should just run a shut off switch instead. Its a street car so a shut off switch on the outside of the vehicle there isnt an option. I really don't want to have to run the 2ga wire up throught the center console either. What things have other people tried? Or, to keep things simple I would just rather get the right size fuse and not have to worry about it. I'm ordering 200amp fuses today to try in there.
Re: Moved battery to rear, what size fuse?
I've never actually seen a fuse on a rear mounted battery, but now that you mention it; why wouln't you install one. The starter alone draws about 200-250 amps during a normal start. If the engine is hot or the starter is old I imagine it could be a lot more. If your going to use a fuse. Get one that is rated for what the cable can cary based on gauge and length. That way you wouldn't hurt or fry the cable in the event of a short. The problem is even if you don't hurt the cable, you'll burn through the the sheet metal in a second. That cable caries way more juice than your average welder.

200 might do it for you, but if I was going to fuse it, I would use a 350 or 400amp fuse, right at the batt
