Mobil 1 zero weight ?
Mobil 1 zero weight ?
Hello, my question is with the lduration of using Mobil 1 zero weight oil. I am at around 3k miles on it now and my question is how many more miles should I have before changing it. Is this oil still good past 4K.
Also I wonder, is it smart to buy the 5w30 extended performance oil as oppose to zero weight. Thansk for replying

I think from his screen name he has an LT1.... but a "signature" with the specifics about his car would sure make a question like this easier to answer. What "0 weight" oil are you running? Its the second number (high temperature viscosity) that is important once the engine warms up.
the oil may not be broke down yet.but keep in mind that oil turns black because it is dirty. Now if u want that oil circulating in ur engine for 7500k mi.thats up to u. I rotate between Amsoil (more detergents) & mobil1, with intervals @ 2k. WHY?IT IS DIRTY.. short trips, daily driver,& lead foot.take care of your f-body.it will thank u in the long run.
Wow you guys go from one post saying people are foolish for running 87 octane to telling people to 7,500 miles between oil changes. Seems kind-of strange to me. If it is dirty it would be foolish not to change it. If you want to save some money run 87 octane.
Well, I probably shouldn't even be involved in this thread, but I am going to anyway
I used to be a huge synthetic user, until I started sending my oil off to be tested at www.blackstone-labs.com
I was using AmsOil 0-30w at first, and had many problems. My oil sample tests started reporting a LOT more metal wear with each sample run. I thought I would switch to a different brand. I switched over to Mobil 0-30w. The tests stayed about the same. I also changed oil about 3500-4000 miles. Then I tried AmsOil 5-30w. Same problems
THEN, I wised up, and listened to a good friend of mine, and tried using
Havoline 10-30w. My oil sample tests started getting MUCH better reports, and the lab even called me once. Telling me how they couldn't believe how much better the wear had improved since switching back over to NON-synthetic, and a heavier weight.
Especially an LT1 engine with 90k miles. With a cam, heads, 12 bolt, all the goodies. This car also received lots of beatings at the track w/ that synthetic oil. Once, it was on the dyno, and after MANY runs on it, it even left me a nice pool of BLACK AmsOil.
Now that I have switched over for GOOD, not only have I saved A LOT of $$$
on oil and filters, I probably added some miles to my engine's life.
I understand everyone has their own opinion, and I used to be on the "ONLY synthetic" band wagon to, but the results don't lie. And I put that extra $40 I was saving PER oil change to better use.

For all its worth I didnt see the Lt in your sig. All I saw was change synthetic at 3k. My 02 has all of 12k on it. The oils been changed 3x filter 4. I changed out some Mobil 1 15w-50 after 1k because I felt 5w-30 was better and put the 50 weight in my motorcycle. I do change filters ever 3-4k add as needed change altogether at every 7500 miles. If I were to change at 3k intervals I would be using dino not synthetic.:eekBy the way tlee_ls1 if you have a light touch on the pedals and never stomp on it your car will run just fine on 87 octane in normal driving.

I'm sure 87 octane would be fine...my mom keeps trying to convince me into putting 87 into my 94, but i won't budge. I only run 91 in it since it has 146k on it, i guess 89 might not hurt it
They went much longer than 4k in this long term study:
