Making the A/C colder

Ive got a 96 z28 and the A/C works, but living here in South Texas with the 90+ degree weather and T-tops, it'd be nice to make it work alittle better. Anyway thats possible?
P.S. those friggin dinky little vents above the dash are good for nothing, sheash.

Your car's a 96 right? It might need to be recharged or topped up. You will lose a bit of freon over time too due to minor leaks.

GM's AC systems are lucky to last 8 to 10 years without any repairs of any kinds.

Take it to a good AC shop.

Re: Making the A/C colder

I live in Texas also, so I feel your pain. The way the vents are arranged and the velosity of the blower there is no vent that you can depend on to shoot air into your face ( the way I like it ). I keep a temp gauge in my Z and my T/A and both are fully charged and working properly, my Z never gets under 45 degrees air temp coming out of vents but my T/A will get to 41 degrees air temp coming out vents. Since you have T-tops do you have the sun shades ??? they make a difference, and window tinting helps a lot also. I have illegal tint on both my cars and that makes a huge difference but legal tint will help a lot also.

Re: Making the A/C colder

So would keeping the car's running temp cooler make the overall interior cooler to? im only assuming cause of the 160 degree thermo idea. I have neither t-top shades, or tint, so im sure those will help. Maybe ill just try slapping some more/better insulation in there or something. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Making the A/C colder

If the system is working correctly there is nothing you can do. The camaro has a large interior area to cool so it takes a while. Making the motor cooler will not help any. Only lowering the ambiant temp would. so unless you have some pull over mother nature... yeah.

but. There are things that can cause poor perforance. Low freon. blocked or dirty condensor fins. Worn out drier. They are all things that can raise the temp of the system. It;s recomended that the reciver be replaced every 2 -3 years. But really who touches the system till there is a problem?

Re: Making the A/C colder

You're losing your heat through the windows of your untinted car. When I got my tint done, I went through the brochures and found the following heat reductions.

TINT...HEAT LOSS
50% = 40%
35% = 45%
20% = 55%
5% = 64%

Slap some tint on there. TX tint laws are 20% on the sides and 5% on the back. (best tint laws in the country )

Yes, the Camaros do have worse vents than the Trans Ams do. You are using MAX and not NORMAL right?
