Performance wise they will be similar, but as for sound, I personally think the Flowmaster sounds better. In terms of durability, I would vote for the Magnaflow as it is stainless steel and will last for a long time.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

The Magnaflow mated up to the Pacesetter long tubes was a little too tame for me. Now I have the 3" cutout on there as well and it is just perfect.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

Magnaflows flow way better than Flowmaster. Wether or not that'll net any performance gain, I dunno, maybe a few horses. Even the crap Flowmaster is better than stock.

Magnaflow is pretty mellow sounding at idle and cruising, but has a mean deep rumble when you go WOT. I like mine.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

I like the SOUND of my Flowmaster (I had to do SOMETHING about the stock exhaust! ) but for PERFORMANCE gains, I think there are much better options. Magnaflow seems to be a pretty popular choice for a combination of power, sound, quality, and cost .

I think borlas sound nice. They are not loud, but just a deep mellow tone. I have a 40 series flowmaster and love it. The idle sounds mean, and even partial throttle makes everyone look.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

ok, here is my .02 cents. I had a flowmaster catback. It was pretty loud, and I liked it. After the new motor, I constantly had piggies staring at me. With no cats, and wide tires, and a bright arrest me red paint job, it was only a matter of time before I got pulled over for loud exhaust. I actually already did a while ago, but I argued with him as to whos definition of loud is right... long story, I won. Anyway, I dont need tickets. They are dumb and pointless. So, I JUST switched to the magnaflow catback. Stainless Steel, bigger piping. It is quieter. Alot. But, it still is a huge improvement over stock. It has a deeper tone to it then my flowmaster. But, I also installed an electric cutout. So, quiet in the city, Loud as a **** in the country. Best of both worlds. So, I vote go for the magnaflow. I love the stealth mode, or fricken hurt your ears loud mode at the flip of a 4 second switch. I made the change, and I dont regret it. hope it helps!

I have a Flowmaster cat back with magna flow high flow cat. It sounds really nice, but it also depends on what you are running under your hood. I got a 427 so it sounds really mean.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

I'm running pacesetters with no cats and a magnaflow and at idle it sounds great. At light throttle its not to loud but does attract attention. At more than 1/2 throttle its much louder and has gotten me a ticket. What would be a good flowing system that has a close to stock noise level?

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

I would go with the magnaflow, also i dont know how much tybrne is selling it for but i bought mine new for 300 shipped with a high flow cat off of ebay. Also the magnaflow is stainless steel so it wont rust like the flowmaster. I had the flowmaster cat back but it rusted out on me so i got the magnaflow. Here is a sound clip with edelbrock shorties, no cat, the magnaflow catback.

Re: magnaflow vs flowmaster

^ ^ ^ good point. My Flowmaster is starting to rust out, and it's not even 3 years old. I'll definitely be going stainless next time I do exhaust.

No surprise,my Edelbrock that was only a couple of years old rusted out and the car has never seen snow and rarely has seen rain. That was the big reason I went with the Magnaflow, because it was stainless and quite cheaper then the Borla.
