Was just wondering. Is there any proven dyno/ track #'s PROVING that LT's produce better power/TQ compared to Shortys?
Clearance is my main concern. Along w/ the obvious power gains.

shorties aren't going to gain you more then 5hp over your stock manifolds, and if you go with something like Pacesetter LT's then you will not lose any ground clearance whatsoever

I'd say if you have a dual cat car the emissions legal shorties for those are borderline worthless, they're short as hell or have curled up primaries and reuse the stock y-pipe which is still crap. I've still got a dynotest around here from a magazine somewhere that even a set of these was worth 10 rwhp though, have to see if I can dig it up.
The single cat shorties w/ aftermarket y-pipe are generally more like mids IMO, and should gain a pretty decent bit. There have been several dyno tests posted before that showed very very little gain w/ LTs over the better shorty/mid setups, I think the claim that shorties aren't worth 5hp is bunk except maybe on the LS1 cars w/ better exhaust manifolds than the LT1 stuff...
I'm not too sure some of the supposedly "before/after" track times between the two are worth a whole lot. Usually months have passed between tests w/ pretty different track conditions. To top it off differences in driving and launch can throw consistency between the before and after way off IMO...

I'm the guy who did the LPE to Kooks swap...And as luck and life would have it, I haven't been able to get to the track yet this year...Now with the heat of summer I'm gonna have to wait til it cools off a little...The car does feel faster and I did put 5 cars on a new 427 Z06 to 100 mph last month on the street...While I didn't pick up any measurable rwhp I did drop over .2 and gain 2 mph on the 1/4 mile dyno run on the Mustang Dyno...
I think that the LT1s respond well to any header because the log style of the stockers are fairly restrictive...LS1 manifolds are more like shorties to begin with so LTs are a must...There's lot of guys/gals making big power and running well with shorties with LT1s....I know I ran better than a lot of n/a LT1s with my lil shorties than guys with LTs...The numbers in my sig were with 1 5/8 LPE shorties and stock wp...Iwent with LTs to wring out every last bit of ET out of this thing...
