LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
Well I've been seeing a 99-04 Saleen Stang around town on the nicer days. Its got the decals, body kit, and badges all over it. I predict the same thing that always happens with new fast cars in town is going to happen. Just like everyone else in this town with a V8 or ricer, word will get to him that there is a fast and loud, red Z28 around town and he's probably going to try to race me one of these days.
Now what I really want to know is what options these came with. Was there a NA version and SC version? What the 1/4 trap and ET? HP and TQ Numbers? Next time I see it I'll try to get more info, but I pretty much want to know what I might be up against.
I know my mod list isnt much now, just bolt on's, but I'll be having some GTP Ported LT4 heads and intake, 3000 rpm Converter, 58mm TB and a larger camshaft around the end of March. So I'll probably hold off on racing him until then
Thanks fella's.

Re: LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
It would be best to ask on a Mustang forum. But, I do know that they did make non-supercharged as well as supercharged version. Would the Stang happen to be mineral gray? If it is, I've seen it in Boardman a couple of times. It has a S281 badge. I also know that they stopped making S351 Saleen's a year or two before the 99 body style came out. That was the bad boy Saleen.
This website, though, breaks down the available models of the Mustang by year. It also breaks down the Saleen Mustangs.

Its actually red. I'm looking through that page now, but I know it has square side exhaust exits before the rear wheels that is built into the ground effects. So far I'm not seeing any like that on the page. I'll keep checking around. Thanks though.

Re: LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
If it's got a sqaure exhaust in the side ground effects, that sounds an awful lot like a Roush Mustang. From the sounds of it, I'd guess that it's run-of-the-mill GT with Saleen badges and a Roush body kit...
Re: LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
Hmm, so Roush versions had the side exhaust. I could swore he had the giant Saleen sticker on the wingsheild. Well I'll start looking at those to see if its one of them. Perhaps I saw roush and thought saleen. Or maybe he just has a nicely riced GT. Thanks guys.

An S281 would beat you...a pre 99 S281 you'd probably beat...I beat teh **** out of one yesterday...
Having said that, wait till you get your mods to race and then do it on the track. I street raced yesterday for the first time in forever and I damn near go busted. Had we started 30 seconds later we would have both been pulled over.

Yeah, if you ever get a chance to look at the car in person, check out the front bumper by the drivers side headlight. If it has a numerical sticker by the headlight, then it SHOULD be a real Saleen. But people have been known to put fake number stickers on their car.
Re: LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
There is a kid here at my college who has a PT Cruiser with "official" Saleen decals... including the numbers by the headlight "911"
...the decals along with the "NOS" sub woofers in the back window and MONSTER *** tach. I like it though - gives me a nice laugh every day

I've just driven past him a few times in town. I'll be sure to get a good look next time. In less than a month I wont have much to worry about

Re: LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
Turns out that everyone I know from town says its a appearance modded stock GT
The only thing worse that I can think of is the V6 Stang running around with plates that say "WILD HP".
Thanks for the help fella's.

Re: LT1 Z28 vs 99-04 Saleen Mustang
I had one that was actually a V-6 with the Saleen apperance package on it race me. I was leaving the gas station and he reved up. It had duals on it and sounded pretty good for a V-6 but I couldn't really tell because as soon as he reved I did too. Got behind him and went to get on the highway when we get to where it opened up to two lanes he nails it. I'm about 2-3 car lengths behind him so I nail it too. I end up passing him like he is sitting still in a matter of seconds. I look over and can tell he's trying to race and then I realize I just wasted a bunch of gas on a V-6 Mustang.
