lt1 or ls1???

I am looking to get a camaro with high mileage or a blown motor with intentions on stroking it shortly after purchase. I am wondering which one would be better to go with.. Ls1 or LT1? It is my intention, obviously, to work off of the block that comes with the car. Also keep in mind the power and let me know which has a stronger tranny and rear. Also if anyone has any power numbers they can tell me I might expect it would be appreciated. thanks

Re: lt1 or ls1???

At the point you are already going to stroke it then I guess it depends on the look of the car LT1 and LS1 cars look different! And also think about tunability and if you want to be able to mess with it yourself! Some LT1's have OBD-I computers that are a little more forgiving to mods!

So think about those few things and you can figure it out yourself, but I don't know a lot about LS1's but I think they are more expensive to Build, and if you are going for a whole lot of power you might have to resleeve the block or get rid of the Alum. block all together! But again I am not experianced with them, so I could be way off on that!

They would be making near the same power if are going to mod them that much so it's which ever one you like better is all. Both have same rears and transmissions.

Talking LS1 - no OPTI.

Plus, more power to start out w/ , and I prefer the Rally Sportish look of the '98 up nose.

But, a '96 or '97 SS is awful mean looking as well !

Any real power upgrades on either motor potentially means looking at a new rear end, though - dinkly lil' SOB's - 7-5/8" , I .

Cheap GM bastages !

Good Luck !

Isn't the LS1 an aluminum block though? And the LT a iron? What is the max power I can expect to run through an ls be4 getting scared?

Re: lt1 or ls1???

The LS-1 has a 6 bolt main were as the LT-1 in the camaros only have a 2 bolt. I have seen some blown LS-1's that make well over 700 with the stock block and beefed up internals.
