lt1 consule
does anybody have any idea how to seperate the place where your suppose to put tapes and the lighter away from the arm rest in an LT1.I want to take that out and put gauges under my radio. Please help ASAP, im kinda in a hurry. thanks everybody!
Re: lt1 consule
the thing you lay your right arm on, yeah, that's called an ARM REST. And that circle thing before that is....A...CUP....HOLDER...and before that's a SHIFTER. THEN, there is a cubby hole to place your tapes in and a spot for the lighter. How do you get that part separated from the rest?

The console assembly and it's different parts are connected together with plastic "rivets". In the factory these rivets are installed and then heated until they melt the two different pieces together.
You will have to flip the entire console assembly upside-down, and look for any of these rivets and use a Dremel or grinder and grind them all off. Once you do that, just work the two pieces gently back and forth until it comes off.
I just looked at the two LT1 spare consoles I have laying around, and neither had the tape holder insert inside the console. But the console in my 99, does. So, I can't tell you if your specific console has these rivets, but I can tell you if it doesn't, then you would have to either cut the insert out, or unscrew it.
Re: lt1 consule
i can tell you how to take the whole thing out, provided you are a stick. there are 3 bolts in the center console. 2 are in the very bottom and one is under the change holder. Then if you pull the boot out from the console around the shifter there are 2 more bolts at the base. The final 2 bolts are on either side at the very front of the console.
