LT1 A/C strength

Do all LT1 AC's suck or is it just mine. I recharged it last summer and it will get the car cool, but not cold to the point of needing to turn it off. The one in my saturn will freeze you to death in mins, but for the Z you need to leave it on the whole time.
Thanks
Bill

Re: LT1 A/C strength

check your expansion block for any leakage in the system.

also, since you are sitting closer to the ground, and right next to the transmission and stuff, the car itself is hotter feeling than other non-sports cars like the camaro, nissan 300ZX, the vette, etc etc, its gonna feel hotter just from that alone.

mine sucks too but I think that my vents and such need to be cleaned out or my blower motor is just getting worn out.

Re: LT1 A/C strength

I've got three LT1s. In two of them the air is ice cold. In one it is just "kinda cold". Haven't tracked the problem down with that one yet but it isn't bad enough for me to take any extra time and look for it though... I just happen to notice it isn't AS cold as the other cars.

I live in Texas, it's 92 today, and have a black convertible top. I have to turn mine down after a few minutes.

I was talking to an LT1 guy a few years ago and he told me when Chevy put the new interior in the '97-'02 Camaros, they purposely made the A/C vents larger because owners were complaining that their cars weren't getting cool fast enough and staying cool long enough.

Re: LT1 A/C strength

Looks to me that the Trans Am vents are huge round ones, while the Camaro vents are tiny rectangular ones.
