LS2 in a 4th gen?

Hey all, I know the ls2 is a gen 4 small block but from what i hear it is VERY simular to the LS1. Now, would the motor mounts be fairly the same since the gto and f-bod are simular i would imagine that it would fit in a ls1 f-bod. I am only speculateing since my motor is getting up there in miles and if/when it does blow i dont want to rebuild it and cam it etc etc, to only get the same ammount of hp that an ls2 basically makes stock. I bet with a cam and bolt ons 450rwhp is far within its reach. I know that it is a new engine i am just saying in a few years i would like to think of it as a possiblility. thanks

Better off going with an LS6. They make better power and they are a direct replacement.

My guess is that it would be cheaper to rebuild your LS1, stroke it, and add some nice heads with a nice cam rather than go with the LS2, and all that it will entail. I don't know if the water pump, altenator, A/C compressor, P/S pump would all be the same or how much fabrication you would need. I do know that you would need a LS2 wiring harness and ECU most likely.

yeah an ls6 would be nice i was just trying to get ideas since my maro is at 78k already and i cant see my motor lasting past 150k. Plus once i get a newer daily i am gunna turn the maro into an all out pro street car. Does anyone know the potential of the ls2 yet? Hopefully once the ls7 becomes more readily available the ls6 prices will drop.

Not that much difference:
Overall, the LS2’s output performance specs look to be almost identical to the LS-6’s with just a slight decrease of 5 HP at 6,000 rpm and shifting lower of the peak torque point from 4,800 rpm to 4,400 rpm. Again, you have to keep in mind that these specs are based on the vehicle they came in with everything that goes with that and at the rear wheels or (SAE net). The specs are not a direct comparison of engine to engine like all the crate engines that rate the HP and Torque at the flywheel with strict dyno testing guidelines
Availability of brackets would be better with the LS1/6 engine (as alluded to).

LS2 is just a bigger cube LS1.
Better off Building the LS1 up.
