ls1 ss spoiler and fan wiring

hey guys i know if you put an ls1 ss spoiler with the led's on an lt1 it tends to set off the abs inop light due to the decreased resistance, and so the cruise control doesn't work. i'm pretty much new to electrical work but i read you have to put a relay in, i even saw the diagram on shbox's website, the only problem i'm having is that i dont understand squat. i saw a post on here of a write up, but even thats not making much sense to me. anyone willing to walk me through it? including what type of relay i need to buy? i even tried doin google searches on relays but electrical stuff is just never gets in my brain lol. secondly i installed an aftermarket head unit in my car and wired my fans with the remote wire because i had a bad tendency of forgetting to turn my fans on and wouldn't remember till the car was overheating. someone recently told me that its bad to run this without a relay, once again what type of relay and how should i do it, or if there is a better alternative. thanks in advance!

Are you saying you don't understand Shoebox's wiring diagram?

http://shbox.com/1/relay_for_ss_spoiler.jpg

In the stock wiring configuration, the two fan are fed power directly from the battery, viaa fusible link, and have either 2 or 3 relays to turn them on and off. The number of relays used depends on whether you have a 94 that was built early in the model year run (2 relays - fan #1 on/off; fan #2 on/off) or later in the model year (3 relays to accomplish both fans low speed, both fans high speed). Shoebox also has a diagram showing both systems:

http://shbox.com/1/1995_pcm6.jpg

How could you "forget to turn your fans on" when they are controlled by the PCM? Had someone already altered the circuits? How does a manual swtich prevent you from forgetting to turn the fans on"? How did you wire up the manual switch? Did you remove the relays and wire the switch into the main power supply wire from the battery to the fans? Or did you hook the switch into the control side of the relays to turn the fans on/off?

Shoebox also has a digram showing how to install a manaul switch, leaving the stock relays intact:

http://shbox.com/1/fan_switch_wires.jpg

http://shbox.com/1/fan_sw_diagram1.jpg

Did you use the method shown in the diagram to add the manual switch?

Re: ls1 ss spoiler and fan wiring

Just didn't know what type of relay I would need to use. And my fans were manually wired and I forgot a couple of times to turn then on so I ran them through my remote wire. I didn't mess with the factory relays...so I should be okay with pulling that much voltage through the remote wire?

Without knowing how you wired up the manual switch, and then the "remote" (do you mean your door entry remote?), there's really no way anyone can help you. I'd recommend that you return the fan wiring to its stock condition and let the PCM run the fans like it's supposed to.

okay if you read my original post i said on their that i installed an aftermaket head unit and that i wired the fans through the remote wire..meaning the remote wire of the head unit. and the fans were wired up manually when i bought the car so i dont really know how it was originally hooked up. but nevermind that. any1 that can help me with the spoiler issue?

The diagram for the spoiler could not be any simpler, IMHO. You take terminals 85 and 86 of the relay and join them to the two wires going to the spoiler lights. A normal 12v automotive relay (like the one used by your fog lamps, for example) is what you use. You can do this in the hatch, under the trim panel.

I read your original post very carefully... and I did not come to the conclusion that you activate the fans through the remote wire of the head unit. Sorry I annoyed you by trying to help.

Good luck.

Re: ls1 ss spoiler and fan wiring

Easy day. There is no guess work here, take your car to Autozone, pull the fuse cover off the fuse block (under the hood on the right side), and remove your ABS relay (1 inch square plastic block stamped with ABS IV). Next take that into the store and buy one just like it (it does not need to say ABS IV, but pay attention to the numbers on it as they will have to be the same). Next, buy some blade type electrical connectors that fit the blades on the relay (probably the red ones). You will also need some wire, so buy some 16 gauge wire (will only need a small amount). After you have paid, go put your relay back in your fuse block and get back in your car. Drive home and follow the directions on Shoebox's website. This is an easy job, I did it in about 20 minutes...and if anyone pays attention to my posts, that is really saying something.

PS, I see you are new here so I will just help you out a bit. Shoe and Injuneer are the last 2 guys you need to get an attitude with as they are usually the first to help.

im sorry if from my post it seemed as though i was showing or giving any sort of attitude, as that wasn't my intention. i know shoe and injuneer help any1 and every1 they can as i see them being the first to respond in almost every single thread that's started aroun here, so i wouldn't be ignorant enough to do that. i appreciate all of your guys' help.
