LS1...

it already comes underrated.

with a simple cam, intake, headers and a dyno tune you can be almost 375hp at the wheels and daily driveable.

similar size cam and you're lucky to get 330-340rwhp on an LT1

LS1 parts cost more then LT1 parts if that's what you are asking. Neither are really easy to work with but once you figure them out they aren't bad.

Re: ls1 or lt1 cheaper

ok...well i guess when i think of "cost" i think of how much $$ it takes to reach a certain hp.

a nice round number...375hp

$1000 in bolt ons
$600 for a cam and kit
$350 for a tune

less than $2000 for an LS1

$1000 for bolt ons
$300 for cam
$1500 for assembled heads
$350 for tune

$3150 for an LT1

i took the "easier" part as "easier to reach the HP goal"....maybe i was misunderstanding it

Re: ls1 or lt1 cheaper

I'd say it's about the same since the LE1 kit will make around that power for $1200 I think it is.

Re: ls1 or lt1 cheaper

Depends on how much power you are looking for - > 400 RWHP, definitely LS1.

< 400 Rwhp, its pretty much a toss up, with the LS1 having a slight advantage. Granted this is depending on the fact that you already have said motor. If you don't then the LT1 holds the edge until you get above 400 RWHP.

350 rwhp LT1

CAI - 150
Headers - 400
Cam - 600

350 rwhp LS1

CAI - 200
Headers - 500
Pulley - 75

If you have to buy the motor, the LT1 is roughly 750ish or less, and the LS1 is gonna be at least 1500.

LS1 is a LOT easier to work on.

There both fairly inexspensive to mod, LS1 is much quicker stock though...and finding a LT1 these days w/ decent miles is getting harder and harder...Id probably opt for the LT1 for the right price, though lower miled LT1 cars are around the same price as earlier LS1's w/ similar miles

where do you get $350 for a lt1 tune? Lt1 cams are $250. My headers and exhaust cost me a total of $450. Heads were $1000. Get your head out of your ***. I will admit the LS1 responds better to mods, but to bias your price list shows your a ls1 nut hugger.

well ****...my LS1 catback cost me $150...and if you wanted uncoated headers you could do them for about $250...but the average is more than that for most people. it's not like i was quoting the $1200 FLP headers, or the $700 GMMG or Corsa exhaust!!

and honestly...

most dyno tunes will run you about $300-350, yeah you can get a mail order tune which is pretty darn good but still those are about $80-175 depending on the year LT1
sorry i was so horribly off

and after checking...you're right...cams are $250-275 according to Thunder racing....i appologize for my gross $50 over estimation however does that include all the gaskets and bolts needed for the swap?

checking the AI website, heads run $1100-1500....againi appologize for being SOOOO far off

so according to your list...
since there isn't really a price difference between bottom of the line headers between the 2 engines, you quote for exhaust cost is the same for both. your cam plus the gasket set ($100 at TR) comes out to $350, the entire cam, springs and gasket set for the LS1 comes out to $660. your LT1 needs heads, according to your quote $1000 which is the low end of what if quickly researched so we'll go with it.
tuning for you, as an average depending on year, is $125. for the LS1 its $225.

so for a daily driveable we'll stick with 400hp.

i highly doubt you'd make 400 at the wheels with a daily driveable LT1 with the $1925 in parts we listed (this assuming you already have the cai and similar "small" boltons).
however with the $1335 that is listed for the LS1...400hp is easily reached.

watch who you insult, i've been on this board for a long ****ing time. started with a 3rd gen, moved onto an LT1 and am currently driving an LS1...

keep your childish insults to your self....this isn't a honda board!

Re: ls1 or lt1 cheaper

If you are talking about over all cost, it would be pretty close when you factor in the fact that Lt1 cars are a little cheaper to get then LS1 cars...

Either way you're going to end up with a nice machine, I'd probably go with an LS1 though.

Yeah, but you can save CONSIDERABLY just off the initial cost of the entire car, LT1/LS1...

Comp

not gonna argue there...

however... as someone stated it is hard to find an LT1 that doesn't need an engine rebuilt in order to handle the added hp.

they are out there...but rare.
