low pressure a/c line

Ok so somehow this hose( the top hose/line that has the black sleeve over it) shifted to close to the alt. and it rubbed a hole into it. Ive check replacement on it and its around 80-90 bucks. Is there a way that I could just splice a piece of copper pipe into the area where the the hole is, and secure the rubber hose back together with worm clamps(what ID would I need?) or can I just replace the entire rubber hose and resecure it to the aluminum pipe ends with worm clamps?what size hose would I need for this?

thanks all!

You could go to your local picked-a-part and get a replacement line for probably a few bucks. Most of the a/c parts will interchange between 93-97 V-6 or V-8.

Mixing copper and aluminum can cause Galvanic Corrosion as far as splicing with some rubber hose the normal pressure on the low side of an a/c system is around 30-35 psi. Depending on how much refrigerant you put in of course.

Zack, I have that A/C hose off of my 1997 Camaro Z28 for sale. PM me if you're looking to pick one up.

Don't even waste your time trying to devise a makeshift coupling, trust me. I had the same thing happen to me when I installed my STB. I had to wait for my new hose to come (had to be ordered) and I thought I'd try the same thing in the interim...95+ degree days will make you try lol......let me just say, it will appear to have worked at first, can almost guarantee it. Problem is, under hood temps, ambient temps, etc. will bring the low side pressure up high after you are done charging it and are satisfied it works.....after my car was sitting for 30 minutes, with a barb fitting, clamps AND epoxy (remember this was going to be temporary) BOOOOOM!!!!! yep...didn't work. See if you can get a used hose off someone on the board, and get ready to curse your head off with the Lineset block, bolt, and gaskets on the back of the compressor. Take lots of sanity breaks..it is doable, definitely go for it, but you will see exactly what I mean once you start trying to get that all lined up. Good luck!
