Low coolant light???

On my 98 trans am, the low coolant light started coming on. I checked the radiator and it is full. I dont see any leaks or anything. I dont have the owners manual but it is the red light with the water and the arrow pointing down. Do you think maybe just a sensor is bad? It doesnt get hot?? Thanks in advance Kara

Re: Low coolant light???

My car did the same thing, the sensor is probably dirty, a coolant flush should take care of it.

Haven't really heard too many issues on the sensor in LS1's, but with LT1's it is a very common problem.

The sensor is about 20-30 bucks and is very easy to replace. Or, you can just unplug the connector to the sensor.

Dirty or bad low coolant sensor.

This has got to be the most frequently asked question about these cars. I see a post nearly every day.

When I bought mine it was about $50 from autozone.

Yep, for some reason it's no shock to hear about this on a LT1 car... But it just dawned on me that this is probably the first time I've heard of it on a LS1.

Re: Low coolant light???

I unplugged my low coolant sensor because I'm too cheap to spend $50 on a sensor.

LT1 sensor should be less than $30 from the discount part sources that Shoebox lists on his website.

Re: Low coolant light???

IMO just disconnect it - light stays off. Don't have one on my car, think GM took them off our cars in '00?

Low Coolant Sensor and Coolant Temp Sensor are two different sensors. Low coolant is a square sensor under the radiator cap, coolant temp sensor is in the head and on the front of the water pump.
