loose 4th gen driver window
loose 4th gen driver window
I tried searching, but couldn't find a thread with this exact problem. My driver's window has become loose over the last few years. Every time I close the door (even if I close it gently), the glass rattles - and rattles bad! Is there an easy fix for this? Will a Hayne's manual help me? Right before I bought the car, the motor was replaced. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mine is the same way. I'd like to pop the door panel off and tighten and adjust but, I'm afraid of messing up the door panel in the process. Are there any special tools needed to pop it off without damage or will a screwdriver and a little force do the trick?
I saw Shoebox's page with all the adjustments you can make but, the panel was already removed. I'll look again and see if I can find how to remove the panel without risking damage to the clips. I don't to fix my window only to have my door panel flapping once I"m done.
If you can wiggle the window back and forth a lot, chances are you broke the roller off the window channel. The channel is the part the window is riveted to. Pull off the door panel and look at the channel. The roller is towards the rear of the door. If it has broken free of the channel, then you have to replace the whole channel. It is a huge PITA.

You can find them at Pep Boys with the other "Help Tools" stuff. I was surprised they made it, I was about to replace the channel.
If were thinking of the same piece; you can get a roller that has a pin with threading at the end. You take the old roller out, slide the new one in, line it up with the hole and put a nut on the backside.

I just replaced my motor
**Insert Big-Ol' Hetero-Man-Smooch to shbox I Love Him!!!**
and looks like I have the broken roller thingie too. May as well fix it too before I put it all back together.
Guess I'll run to Advance and see what I can find...
Anyone else seen/done this???

Hello,
for what it's worth my window (96 Z) would rattle only when partially down. Full up no rattle. I took the door molding off and found that apparently after several window motor replacements the dealer mechanic removed 2 (3 ?) small bumpers that were rivited to the door skin, these are at the top of the door skin accross from the adjustable bumpers decribed in Shoeboxes how too section.
These bumpers that were removed from my door would have held the window taunt as it went up and down, perhaps the window motor was straining as they held it from rattling. Whatever the case it would only cause your window to rattle when part way down, no rattle all the way up. Check it out and good luck.
