My buddy is looking at building this LE1 combo on his 96Z. Do you recomemnd anything else for this combo to work better? He's trying to build this on a budget so I dont think a fully forged bottom end is gonna find its way into the engine. He plans on rebuilding the entire engine at the same time.
Everything he can afford
Don't need a forged bottom end to run the set-up, but absolutely a good set of pistons and fastners, rods if you can afford it, but not a must. Important things in my set-up that I would have done first time around instead of test and tune would be larger injectors 30-36lbs and some sort of LT header w/o cats.
Obviously you want to get all the other stuff that goes inside the engine so you only have to open it up once like 1.6's, intake, ignition, replacement lifters, good "Correct Length" pushrods, weld the oil pickup to the pump, etc. Those are things you don't want to keep going back to mess with. The other bolt ons you can just get when the time comes like TB, elec. w/p, etc. since those are pretty easy to just swap out.
