Today when I was driving I heard a whining noise and just figured it was the 12 bolt. But when i got out and looked behind the car there was a trail of fluid which ended up being power steering fluid. I havent had a chance to dig into it yet but It looks like the largest hose off the resivour was leaking. I know a whining pump is indicative of a bad pump but if its not getting fluid itll whine too right?

Is it relatively common for hoses to go bad?, Just hoping its not a hard line....

I had the same issue which turned out to be a bad O-ring on the power steering line.

Im just going to replace the lines since I cant find a leak. Can the pump itself physically leak outside of the lines themselves? It was working perfectly fine before hand...

Did you check the o-rings on the end of the power steering lines? No need to replace the lines if the o-rings are bad. After letting my car sit for the winter I noticed a huge puddle of power steering fluid. I traced it down and noticed that the o-ring had detroiated over time.

FJ Smith has a power steering leak fix kit. Here's a pic of it:

Ok...I'm a wise guy .

On a serious note, my power steering system developed a few leaks from normal wear and tear. Just repair as needed .

No I didnt take a good look at those. With my hands and half the engine compartment being covered in the fluid I was looking more so at just the lines. Ill have to wait till tommorow or friday to dig back into it. It would make sense that somthing like an O ring would go bad all of the sudden...

LOL Ryan. After having to drive with no power steering only a couple miles home I dont know how I could do it every day. With those 275's up front it was tough!
