Kill Switch?

hi, is it possible to make a stock ASR switch into a kill switch? i don't have ASR so there is a blank spot where the switch would be.

Re: Kill Switch?

A switch is a switch, you can make it power anything you want.

Re: Kill Switch?

i didn't know if anyone had done it before. on the foglight switch there is 3 or 4 wires, i didn't know how to wire up the ASR switch if it was pretty much the same.

Re: Kill Switch?

There are alot of different type of switches. But most fall into two categories NO(normally open) or NC(normally closed). NO switches are the type you run into every day. When they're "off" the circuit is open and when they're "on" the circuit is closed. I would assume that the ASR switch is this type. It should have an NO or NC on the base of the switch, if not, you can check it with a multimeter. In any case this switch is not going to have the amperage carrying ability you need, to use directly. So you will have to use it to power a relay. The relay needs to be an NC and constant duty type.
Multiple contact switches, as the name implies, are use to power more then one thing at a time. Just use one set of contacts. If you are using this to "kill" your bat. and your alt. You may need to have two relays or rewire your alt. If any of this is confussing, you may want to have an auto electrician do this for you.
Of course you can avoid all this by using a manual kill switch.

Just realized you may be using this for an ignition kill, in which case you should be able to use it directly, but you will need to check the amp. rating on the switch to be sure.

Re: Kill Switch?

not easily, IIRC, the ASR is a momentary switch
