keys

I have a 94 Camaro that the key does not work. Ordered one from the dealer, it does not work. Pulled the switch and had a locksmith make one with the same key chip, switch turns, car still won't turn over. Was told there is a reader under the dash someplace that confirms the chip code. Maybe it has been changed, but I have no clue on where to look. Any help on the location or the location, and what it looks like? I have access to many GM cars with chip keys, are the readers in a standard location? Do the all look alike? Help.

you may have to replace the ignition cylinder. If your VATS system doesnt read the same resistance as the original key did, the security light will flash and you car will not turn over.

What that is is putting a resistor to simulate the correct VATS key being in the ignition even though the cylinder may have issues. Theres little wires in the ignition cylinder that are really small and over the years they'll tend to break. When they do it won't read the security key anymore... So if ya do that resistor mod it'll bypass that
