Key stuck in ignition

I'm posting this for another person and I'm wanting to get an idea of what would cause this before I go over and try to fix it. It will start fine, but it won't come back past the acc spot. Jiggling the steering wheel and shifter have been tried. What could cause this? Stuck ignition switch? I'm heading there after work to try and get the key out. TIA.

I'll try that. I've never heard of that problem. Strange. I appreciate it. What causes the mal-adjustment?

No, the neutral safety switch is located in the wires of the plug that plugs directly to the front of the shifter. This, I guess, is to make sure the car is in park before you can actually take the key out of the ignition.

Re: Key stuck in ignition

GM does not want anyone to lock the steering wheel while the car is in motion, so they require the car be in park (stopped) in order to turn the key to the lock position. It's to protect the terminally stupid from getting darwin awards.
